Worthing’s Beach Hotel opens its doors for final time
HUNDREDS of residents packed the Beach Hotel in Worthing as it opened its doors for the final time with a special auction.
Everything from watercolour paintings and Edwardian furniture, to four-poster beds went under the hammer today (Saturday).
The event attracted a broad audience of people eager to gain a souvenir from the fondly-regarded art deco landmark.
More than 500 lots were up for grabs with competitive bidding throughout the day as residents were given a final chance to take a closer look round the historic building.
Dating from the mid 19th Century, the three-star destination has been used as a hotel since the 1930’s and is due to be demolished to make way for a new hotel.
Managing director Jonathan Farnes described it as a “sad day” to be closing but was glad the site would gain a replacement. For a full report see this week’s Herald.
