Matt Warren, director of Travel Places, in Chapel Road, has launched an online petition ‘to get the council to take a more realistic look at its pricing structure’.

Mr Warren said: “I feel all it does is affect the youngsters we want to encourage to come to work. To not even tell people and assume they will be ok with a big increase, I don’t know how they can justify it.”

In an open letter to the council Mr Warren said that such large increases in price would not entice new businesses to the town or encourage current Worthing-based businesses to stay.

Travel Places employees have been paying £17.50 per month to park in Teville Gate multi-storey car park.

As of April 1, when the council reclaims ownership of the town’s multi-storey car parks from NCP, this price will go up to £48 a month.
