Carving workshop planned for new year

SUSSEX Woodsman will be holding a basic spoon and spatula carving workshop at the Harriet Johnson Centre, Loose Lane, Sompting on the February 15.

The course will be open to anyone over the age of 14, and no carving experience is necessary.

Those who attend will be given hands on instruction in the art of spoon carving and instructors will demonstrate how to carve a spatula and spoon from scratch using traditional hand tools, before giving students a chance to do it themselves.

There will be guidance on knife and axe safety, cutting and carving techniques using axes, knives and saws, material selection and hands-on carving experience.

The workshop will cost £75 and there are only six places available.

Students will need to bring their own lunch.
