A kind-hearted pensioner was reduced to tears when thieves stole a collection bucket from her charity Christmas lights display.

For the last four years Joy and Pete Anderson have put a collection bucket next to their impressive Christmas lights display in Bulkington Avenue, Worthing.

Passers-by would watch the display and in return make a donation for a charity that changed each year.

But at some time between Monday evening and Tuesday morning, Joy learned the bucket had been stolen.

Joy, 71, said: “I was absolutely gutted. I was crying when I saw it missing. It’s meant to be for charity but someone came along and took it.”
