Charity fun day in aid of stroke victim

A CHARITY football match and fun day will be held in August in aid of a single mother from Lancing who suffered a massive stroke in February.

The event will be held at Worthing Football Club, Woodside Road, Worthing, on Sunday, August 11, from 11am till 4pm.

There will be an 11-a-side football match, bouncy castle, face painting, tea and cakes, children’s games, a raffle and many other family-based activities.

The event is being held to raise money for rehabilitation treatment for Carly Clark, 31, of Elmstone Close, Lancing, who had a stroke at her home earlier this year.

Carly was taken by ambulance to Worthing Hospital for treatment and three days later she was rushed to St George’s Hospital in London, for an emergency operation to remove a blood clot from her brain.

She is having sessions with a neurologist and a physiotherapist to improve her health, but these cost £90 each and are not covered by the NHS.

She has had to learn to walk again but her left arm is still unresponsive. Carly is due to have an operation on her heart and a metal plate fitted to her skull.

Organisers are asking local businesses to donate raffle prizes in return for advertising in the matchday program and on boards at the event.

Entrance to the fun day costs £1 per adult and is free for children.

Carly currently looks after her three-year-old daughter Evelyn with help from her family.
