Council meeting evacuated and fire engine called

Councillors were forced to evacuate and a fire engine was called in the middle of a parish council meeting this evening.

Lancing Parish Council had almost finished its meeting at Lancing Parish Hall in South Street when an alarm sounded and the building had to be emptied.

Councilors and members of the public alike were forced out into the October chill by what turned out to be a false alarm.

After a few minutes the alarm ceased and the meeting was able to resume for its final ten minutes.

A fire engine attended the scene, however crews were just there to check the area was safe, one firefighter at the scene confirmed.

A spokesperson for West Sussex Fire and Rescue confirmed an engine had been called out to an automatic alarm at 8.34pm but that it was found to be a false alarm.
