COUNTY NEWS: Several injured following collision in Sussex town centre

Two people have been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries following a road collision in a Sussex town this afternoon (Sunday, March 19).

Police said the incident occurred at around 1.55pm in the High Street in Battle.

A black VW Beetle was travelling westbound in the High Street when it collided with a number of pedestrians and a shop front.

Police said the driver of the VW is currently being treated for minor injuries at the Conquest Hospital, as well as three pedestrians.

Sussex Police said two further pedestrians were taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with ‘serious, life-threatening injuries’.

Battle High Street remains closed while police carry out an investigation.

Police are appealing for witnesses and are asking them to ring 101, quoting Operation Willington or email [email protected].
