CRICKET: Weekly round-up (June 27)
GORING CC captain Gareth Cook rued his own dropped catch which he believed would have changed the game in their Sussex League Division 3 West defeat against Slinfold.
Slinfold won by 151 runs thanks to Guy Thorne's 143 but Cook had dropped the batsman when he was on just three.
He said: "It was a very comfortable victory for them but it really shouldn't have been. I put down their top scorer when he was on just three. It wasn't even a difficult catch, I've held a lot harder this season.
"We got Jonathan Augustus for 30, who we thought would have been their danger man, but the dropped catch would have changed the game."
However, Goring did not help themselves with the bat and were all out for 88, with Slinfold's Ali Awcock's taking 6-48.
Cook added: "We were woeful with the bat again. Aaron Wyatt batted all right at No 10, making 18, but only one other player made it into double figures, which isn't good enough."
"We've got a few back from university now and a few youngsters coming through, so we have a little more depth for this week's match against Arundel."
Findon's inept batting performance cost them in their one-wicket defeat at Steyning. After being dismissed for 128, a fine effort with the ball almost rescued a victory but Steyning got home at 129-9.
Findon captain Ben Coulson said: "Our batters didn't get enough runs and a second defeat on the trot was a hard pill to swallow. But, there's still a long way to go and there's not much to chose between the teams in this league, apart from Billingshurst and Bognor."
Apart from Findon openers Bradley Bridson and Baz Meany, who contributed 57, only Mickey Demetriou and Kingsbury reached double figures
Findon's spinners Henry Metters and Toby Kingsbury, almost bowled them to victory, taking five wickets for 46 runs between them.
Kingsbury, whose 13 overs conceded 19 runs, caused a late order collapse as Steyning lost five wickets for 29 runs, taking them from 80-4 to 109-8. But Findon could not take the final wicket and Steyning scrabbled home.
Chippingdale produced a fine performance with the bat to overcome Scaynes Hill by 77 runs to lift them out of the relegation zone in Division 2 of the West Sussex Invitation League.
Graham Avinou (28) and Ben Stone (36) put on an opening stand of 78 before Adam Thair (66 not out) and Faisal Khan (60 not out) added 143 for the third wicket as they took Chipps to 225-2 after 48 overs.
Khan (4-16) then provided the base of the attack and Hill fell from 79-2 to 99-8 as Tim Hall took four wickets for 43 runs, before they were bowled out for 148.
