CRICKET: Sussex's Jason Lewry's weekly column (June 18)

WE'RE coming to the end of quite a punishing schedule at the moment and have had just one day off in between each of our three County Championship matches.

Saying that, it's been the same for each county although it's quite rare to have three back-to-back matches – normally we just have two back-to-back games a couple of times a season.

We've rotated people throughout the games, though – especially the ageing bowlers!

Luke Wright and I came into the team for the Somerset game in place of Corey Collymore and James Kirtley.

It's been a while since James and I played in a Championship game together. He's quite into his stats, though, and has worked out that we are 20 per cent more effective when we bowl together.

We're approaching 1,200 wickets between us for Sussex, so have been pretty successful for a couple of players born and bred here.

I've been to see a specialist about my knee and have got another operation after this game. It will be the fourth or fifth injection I've had in the same knee, so I'm just going to make the most of every game I play in now.

This game is my first home match of the season and I have quite a good record at Hove, although I don't overly enjoy bowling there.

That's only because it's normally such a good wicket, and favours batsmen rather than bowlers.

We've also got matches at Arundel and Horsham coming up, which are two of my favourite venues. I started my first ever Championship game at Arundel, and I now live only three or four minutes away from the ground.

It's always great to have Luke back in our side. He's excellent to watch and was great viewing during the Twenty20 World Cup. He's just so excitable and genuinely loves his cricket.

It was an awesome win by the boys at Worcestershire. The wicket was slow throughout so to bowl them out twice was an outstanding achievement.

And you don't get a much better debut than what Piyush Chawla had. He smashed the ball everywhere to get a hundred and took eight wickets in the match. It's going to be exciting watching him in the next couple of weeks.

Apart from the Worcestershire match, there hasn't been much going on at the club in the last week. I've been going into train on my own, although Yasir Arafat was also in earlier this week.

It looks as though his hamstring injury will rule him out of the rest of the Twenty20 World Cup.

But, hopefully, he'll be back for our Friends Provident semi-final in early July.
