Dash camera appeal after jewel theft

A reported distraction burglary in which police believe a man distracted the victim while another stole £4,500 worth of jewellery has prompted a public appeal for information.

The incident occurred some time between 2.15pm and 2.45pm on Tuesday, October 18 in Sompting Road.

Police say two men called at the address claiming to be dropping off materials for work being carried out in the back garden.

While one of the men spoke with the victim, the second was left unattended. After they both left, the victim went upstairs and found that around £4,500 worth of jewellery including necklaces, bangles and rings had been stolen, according to Sussex Police.

One of the suspects is described as white, between 25 and 30 years of age, around 5ft 5ins and of average build with short hair. He was wearing a dark jacket and spoke with a European accent.

The other suspect is described as white, aged between 40 and 45 years of age, around 6ft and of muscular build with an English accent.

Police investigator Tom Carpenter said: “Sompting Road is a busy thoroughfare and I would be very keen to speak with anybody who was in the area at the time and saw any suspicious people or vehicles.

“I would also be keen to speak with the owners of any vehicles fitted with dash cams that were in Sompting Road between 2pm and 3pm that afternoon.”
