AN investigation into a suspected arson has been launched after a quick-thinking neighbour alerted police to some lit paper near a letterbox in Durrington.
The neighbour called police when they saw some lit paper near to a letter box at a house in Hudson Close, Durrington, just after midnight on Saturday (June 2).
Following the neighbour’s call, police discovered the paper. It was also believed an accelerant was used, although no damage was caused to the property.
Two men were seen by the witness running from scene wearing tops with the hoods up.
Detective Sergeant Colin O’Hare, who is investigating the arson, said: “This is an extremely serious incident. The occupants of the house included a five-year-old little girl who was asleep upstairs. Had the neighbour not been so alert, this could have been an awful lot worse.”
Police are urging anybody with information to contact West Sussex CID at Worthing on 101, quoting serial 0027 of June 2.
