Road rage attack in Worthing

A CYCLIST had to be treated for head injuries following an alleged road rage incident in Worthing town centre.

The 60-year-old local man was cycling along Gratwicke Road at about 4.14pm yesterday (Wednesday, September 7) when he collided with a Vauxhall Nova saloon.

A dispute followed, during which the driver of the Nova allegedly went to the boot of his car, took out a hammer and struck the man on the head with it.

The attacker drove off and the cyclist was treated at Worthing Hospital for cuts to his head but was later discharged.

A man was arrested on suspicion of the assault later that day.

Samuel Brownson, 20, of Ambersham Crescent, East Preston, has been charged with attempting to cause grievous bodily harm to the cyclist.

He has been released on police bail and is due to appear at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, September 20.
