A driver crashed into a number of cars – including a mother and baby – before abandoning his vehicle in Princes Park, according to police.

The incident happened yesterday (November 3) at Sovereign Roundabout on the seafront.

Police say that at 3.15pm on November 3, a car collided with two other vehicles in Lottbridge Drove and at the Sovereign Roundabout in Eastbourne.

A spokesperson said the car then hit a fence in Lottbridge Drove – and the driver failed to stop and continued to Princes Park.

Emma Prince, who was in a car with her baby and her father driving, was involved in the collision.

Ms Prince said her dad saw the car and pulled in towards the roundabout to avoid a collision.

She said because of this, he turned what would have been a ‘high speed side on collision, into a glancing blow’.

Looking at their car afterwards, Ms Prince said they realised how bad it could have been.

She said, “My four-month-old baby was in his baby seat just where the car would have collided straight into the side of us had my dad not taken action.”

A nearby pedestrian said there were lots of children in the park at the time.

Ms Prince said, “It was so lucky no-one got really hurt and I am so angry with this person who put so many people at risk.”

Police said the car was found abandoned and a 33-year-old man was arrested shortly afterwards nearby on suspicion of drink driving. He is currently in custody for interview and further enquiries.

Police said no one was hurt.
