Teenager '˜threatened with knife' and '˜punched in the face'

A 17-year-old boy was threatened with a knife and punched in the face as he walked along Chapel Road, according to police.

Between 6pm and 6.30pm on Tuesday (May 23) the victim and his friend were walking north towards the roundabout that leads to Teville Road when the suspect allegedly demanded money from the victim, police said.

A police spokesman said: “The victim handed over £20 before the incident was interrupted by two passers-by and the victim managed to run off.

“A 26-year-old man was arrested a short time later on suspicion of robbery and a public order offence and has been released under investigation.”

DC Pete Parkinson said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen something. This occurred in a busy part of the town and in broad daylight so there is a high possibility that passers-by may have witnessed what happened.”
