THREE teenagers are in custody today (Thursday, March 24) after an attempted armed robbery in Worthing.
A 17-year-old boy was cut on the back during the attack outside the Guildbourne Centre at around 11.20pm yesterday (Wednesday, March 23).
He was taken to Worthing Hospital for treatment but his injuries, although serious, are not thought to be life threatening.
The boy was playing on his skateboard when three teenagers approached him and demanded his mobile phone.
When he refused, a fight took place and he received cuts to above his eye and back with a knife.
The suspects then fled the scene but were found a short time later and arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and assault.
Detective Inspector Trevor Bates from Worthing CID said: “Sussex Police take knife crime very seriously.
“The victim is obviously very distressed by the incident but he is recovering well.”
Two boys aged 15 and 14 years old and a 15-year-old girl remain in custody for questioning today.
