UPDATE: 12 people arrested in connection with a Littlehampton murder

A DOZEN people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was stabbed to death in Littlehampton yesterday (Christmas Day, Sunday, December 25).

Police have confirmed they have arrested 12 people following the fatal stabbing in Beach Road, outside the Eastern European Food shop and Arun Furnishers.

Police were called at approximately 9pm after a man, in his 30s, received the fatal stab wound.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Hays, of Surrey and Sussex major crime team, said: “A full investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the victim’s death.

“I would like to thank the local community in Littlehampton for their understanding and support while we investigate this tragic incident.

“A post-mortem is still to take place and the man has yet to be formally identified, as we are very much in the early stages of the investigation.”

Beach Road was closed last night (Sunday) to allow officers to carry out forensic searches as part of the ongoing investigation.

The road has now been reopened but forensic officers are currently sweeping the area outside the properties.

One eye-witness said he saw what he thought was blood on the hallway walls between the two properties.

Anyone with information which may assist police with their enquiries is asked to call Sussex Police on 101 quoting Operation Moorfoot.
