COUNCILLORS are seeking ‘cast iron guarantees’ that A&E services at Worthing Hospital will not be affected by the controversial awarding of a key contract to Bupa in a ‘crunch’ meeting today.

West Sussex Health and Adult Social Care Select Committee will grill the Coastal West Sussex Clinical Commissioning Group over its decision to award a £235 million musculoskeletal (MSK) services contract to BUPA CSH Ltd, instead of Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The committee’s vice-chairman, councillor James Walsh, said: “The committee has a very considerable influence, as if we are unsatisfied and think there could be a likely reduction in services, we can ask the secretary of state to examine it. It’s absolutely a crunch meeting.”
