MEETING in church led to 70 years of happily married life for one Worthing couple.

Frank and Joyce Goody, both 91, celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary last Wednesday, and Frank thinks what has kept them together for so long is being interested in different things.

The couple, of Grand Avenue, Worthing, both joined the services soon after they got engaged, and Frank said sometimes they would only see each other a couple of times a year.

Frank said that in “those days” people never got married before they were 21, and in keeping with that they waited until they were both 21 to tie the knot.

They were married in 1942 at the Holy Trinity Church, in Redhill, Surrey, and honeymooned in Poole for two weeks.

Talking about the secret to a lasting relationship, Frank said: “Basically, the old-fashioned ones are trust, confidence in each other, naturally, and also having, strangely enough, different interests.”
