Year-ten fans Hannah Greaney, Lydia Redding and Rosie Ward were proud to introduce their favourite author to a hall packed with girls from years eight and nine.

Teri told them her early life involved changing schools on a regular basis because of her father’s work, so she felt drawn to the characters in the books she loved to read while adapting to new places and making new friends.

Always a writer, Teri had completed nine books before her dystopian thriller, Slated, was finally published to great acclaim.

It won the South Coast Schools’ Amazing Book Awards (ABAs) in 2013 and was followed by two gripping sequels, Fractured and Shattered.

All three are set in the near future and imagine a potential breakdown in society and the effect this might have on young people.

This summer, Teri again triumphed at the ABAs when her exciting futuristic novel, Mind Games, gained the silver award.

After reading to pupils from her prize-winning novels, Teri introduced her latest story, called The Book of Lies, about identical twins who were separated at birth and meet for the first time at the age of 17.

Following her presentation, Teri signed copies of her books for the long queue of students keen to meet her.

During the afternoon, 30 budding writers worked with Teri in the library and plotted a detective story.

Librarian Hilary Kemp said: “Teri was very impressed by the girls’ inventive minds and the unusual murder weapons they invented.

“In a relatively short space of time, all of the students came up with a plausible plot and some very gruesome endings.

“While waiting at the railway station on the way home, Teri Terry was delighted to hear two of our students talking about her visit in the most glowing terms.

“She thoroughly enjoyed her visit to Angmering and we are keen to invite her here again soon.”
