A SCHOOLGIRL has won a national writing competition.

Marie Willis, seven, won the under-eight section of the RSPCA magazine Animal Action’s writing competition with her entry The Tale of the Dormouse, about an animal adventure.

The editor of Animal Action invited Marie, who goes to Thomas A’Becket First School, Worthing, to collect her prize in person from their HQ in Southwater

Her dad, Paul, 44, of Broomfield Avenue, said: “She was treated as a VIP guest and shown around the building and given an insight into how they put the magazine together. She got to meet Dougal, the club’s resident dog and star of many of the features in the magazine and was handed her prize of a Netbook.

“She was thrilled to be chosen as the winner and even more pleased with her prize. Now, she is practising her typing skills so she can write even more stories and poems.

“My wife Erin and I were very proud of her achievement.”
