PUPILS learned how to make bird feeders from a wildlife celebrity expert.

Television presenter Chris Packham visited English Martyrs Catholic Primary School, in Derwent Drive, Goring, and led a whole school assembly to talk about his work.

Chris then ran the bird feeder workshop for year-three children.

English Martyrs was one of three lucky schools across the country to benefit from a visit by the famous naturalist.

The visits were organised by dairy products company Arla and the National Schools Partnership to support the launch of their Kids Closer to Nature grants scheme, which will give local communities the opportunity to win a donation towards a pop-up nature reserve in their locality.

Susie Fordham, the outdoor learning co-ordinator at English Martyrs, said: “It is such a wonderful learning opportunity and the children have been really excited about having an expert coming to visit.

“We are always looking for ways to involve and inspire the children in learning about the environment.”
