After 39 years of a dedicated service, a much-loved school dinner lady has retired.
Janet Budd began working at Goring CE First School when her youngest child Jackie started as a pupil there in 1973, and continued serving lunches for almost four decades.
To mark her departure, a special assembly was held at the school, in Palmerston Avenue, and children from each year made her a card.
Janet, 70, of St Osmund Road, Ferring, said she had greatly enjoyed her time at the school and would especially miss the children.
“It never occurred to me to leave after my children left, as it fitted in so well and I could have the school holidays with them.
“It’s just a lovely little place to work,” she said.
