NORTHBROOK College was presented with a nationally recognised award for health and community care at a ceremony in Westminster last Wednesday.
The college was chosen to receive the Association of Colleges (AoC) Beacon Award for its work with more than 500 care sector employees.
Sue Dare, the Northbrook College principal, was presented with the award by Matthew Hancock MP, the minister for skills and enterprise.
She said: “It’s absolutely brilliant, we’ve been putting ourselves forward for this award for the last couple of years because we feel that the work we do with local employers and care employers in particular is absolutely superb and it’s great to have that recognised nationally.
“We’ve enabled a number of people who were unemployed to take up careers in health and social care changing the profile from the usual older woman to young men and young people generally and we’ve really made a difference to the type of person and career structure in care.”
The college has helped prepare employers to care and support people suffering from illnesses such as dementia.
