PUPILS from Our Lady of Sion junior school started the autumn term by getting to see an Olympic torch close up.
They were visited by Ian Richards, one of the Olympic torchbearers, who talked to the children about his role as torchbearer and a bit about what it meant to be an Olympic athlete.
They also all got a chance to hold the torch.
James Saunders, deputy head teacher at the school in Gratwicke Road, Worthing, said: “I was very pleased to welcome Ian Richards to our assembly on Thursday morning.
“Ian provided an excellent insight into the Olympic Games and his role in carrying the torch.
“The children felt extremely proud in being able to hold the torch and have a connection with such an historic event.”
