PRE-SCHOOL children tucked into Oriental-style dishes and mastered the use of chopsticks to celebrate Chinese New Year.
A group of 16 two to four-year-olds and several parents and teachers at Little Rascals, at Worthing Baptist Church, in Christchurch Road, Worthing, visited the Fortune Inn, in Chapel Road, Worthing, to sample the best of its cuisine.
The visit was part of a wider project which coincided with the Chinese year of the dragon.
The children had been reading books about Chinese culture and in the role-play area, they had been re-enacting running a Chinese restaurant.
Tracey Wakelin, early years practitioner, said: “We like to be aware of different festivals and for Chinese New Year this time we decided to do something a bit different.

“Some of the children had eaten Chinese food before but they all enjoyed it.”
On offer was sweet and sour chicken, chicken chow mein, vegetable spring rolls and prawn crackers.
Teachers, parents and children alike all got to try eating with chopsticks.
Kelly Goss, the pre-school’s manager, said: “It was good to watch the children trying to use the chopsticks but they all did well. The children were really well behaved and it was nice to see some of the parents join in, too.”
