A WORTHING father will complete a sponsored cycle next month with his eight year old son.

Craig McLoughlin, 42, and his son Aaron will cycle from Worthing to Brighton Pier, around 15 miles, on Tuesday October 8 to raise money for Macmillan.

The bike ride came about after Aaron, who lives in Fife with his mother, spotted someone walking along in a Macmillan t-shirt.

Mr McLoughlin said: “He pointed it out to me and said that Macmillan are the nurses that care for people who have cancer. I was a little shocked that a child of eight knew about Macmillan but as his mother is a carer up in Scotland I presumed he learnt it from that.

“A few minutes later he said to me that we should do a sponsored cycle ride in aid of them when he is down here next.

“He asked how far we had ridden on a recent bike ride and when I said about 12 miles he said we should do about 15 miles for the sponsored walk. “As such the Pier to Pier cycle ride came about.

“Having spoken to Macmillan they were also surprised that a child so young was aware of them and astonished that he had asked to raise money for them.” To make a donation go to www.justgiving.com/Craig-McLoughlin
