Patriarch and eldest member of the Scott family 94-year-old Don Scott, of Ferringham Lane, Ferring, said the afternoon was ‘absolutely superb’.

“The idea was to get the Scott’s together, to get the bloodline together,” said Don. “The results were staggering, everyone was so pleased to be able to attend.”

The gathering was arranged by Don’s nephew Carl following the death of his uncle Barry Scott in July 2013.

After Barry’s funeral, Don said Carl realised the family had lost touch because of distances between members and felt the gathering was a sensible thing to do.

More than 50 family members attended the get together, with some travelling from as far as Switzerland and the United States for the meet, in Goffs Manor, Crawley.

The family does now have a fifth generation but they did not attend.

Some members of the family had not met before so name badges were worn throughout the afternoon.

Don said: “I thought it was absolutely superb. The hall was full of laughter and people with their arms around each other.”

The gathering was arranged as a one off however Don joked that they should do it again in ten years time.

“It’s a good family, there’s never been any problems.

“I was so proud I was able to get there – I would not have missed it for the world.”
