Fears over plans for new homes in Storrington

A PROPOSED 41-home development at Storrington has been described by one resident as “further destruction of our heritage”.

Dick Bland, of Church Street, Storrington, is opposing Beachcroft Developments’ planning application to Horsham District Council to build 41 two-bedroom homes for retired people on land adjacent to St Joseph’s Abbey, in Church Street.

Mr Bland said: “Though much of Storrington has been legally trashed over the years, the immediate area in question is still fairly unspoiled.

“More important, the roads and other infrastructure are utterly unsuited to such development.”

Referring to a previous hearing, Mr Bland said: “This, we were told, is not a problem as the decrepit old relics, all over 55 years of age, will only timorously and rarely emerge in a site minibus provided by the developer; strange, when most, if not in the public sector, must work on to around 80.”

A Horsham District Council spokeswoman told the Herald that the application is likely to be considered at the council’s planning committee meeting on June 19.
