Edward Thomas, ten, entered a competition organised by Storrington business Just-Printing to find the ideal flying machine.

Edward, a pupil at St John the Baptist C of E Primary School in Findon, said: “I really enjoyed designing my ultimate flying machine and can’t wait to see the birdmen in action, flying off the pier.”

Along with his proud mother, Francesca, Edward will be seated on the pier on Saturday to watch the Birdman competitors up close, as they take their daring flights across the sea. The pair will also be treated to refreshments and an afternoon tea as part of the prize.

Andy Simon, from Just-Printing, judged the winner of the competition. He said: “We were really impressed with all of the fantastic entries we received for the competition and it’s great to see how imaginative and creative children can be. Edward’s design and attention to detail really wowed us and we’re delighted to have him and his mother attend the day with the Just-Printing team.”
