A schoolgirl from Broadwater is to appear on national TV after winning a UK-wide singing competition.

Budding singer Olyvia Durrant, five, of Cortis Avenue, will get a chance to showcase her singing skills as she appears on Nick Jr. from August 24-30 alongside five other hopefuls from around the country.

Olyvia’s mum, Sarina, uploaded a video of her singing the catchy Dora and Friends: Into the City! theme tune for a competition launched by Nick Jr. as part of their Sing-Along Summer to find Britain’s most enthusiastic young singers.

It beat more than 700 other entries from across the UK, and was praised by the judges for its energy and the inclusion of some dance moves.

As part of the prize, Olyvia will also receive a bundle of the brand new Dora and Friends toy range.

Sarina said: “Olyvia is a born performer, and has always been into singing and dancing. She often sets up little shows in the garden and lines up chairs for us to watch her sing with her friends.

“Dora and Friends is her favourite show and she knows the theme tune by heart, so when the competition came up I knew it was something she would love to do.

“She is absolutely thrilled that she’s won. I think we have a budding Beyonce on our hands.”

Nick Jr.’s head of editorial, Alison Bakunowich, said: “The judges were so impressed with Olyvia’s beautiful dancing and lovely singing voice. You could tell she was so into the music, and her video was a joy to watch.”
