FOOTBALL: Colbran wants a big performance
WORTHING Football Club boss Simon Colbran admitts that the club's off-field problems have had an effect on their current form, but he will be looking for big individual and team performances on Saturday against Ramsgate.
Rebels, who had Joe Booker sent-off, went down 5-2 at Ramsgate in a nightmare afternoon back in October which brought an end to a three-match winning run in Ryman League Division 1 South.
Colbran himself remains focused but believes the players have been effected, the same as anyone would have been with the budget cut.
He said: "Everything is going to have an effect on the players, it's natural. People worried about who was going to leave, who was going to stay and were thinking about wages and things.
"But it's where the younger players have got to grow.
"It took me 24 hours to get over the news of the problems and to commit to the club. I have a job to do and that is what I'll be concentrating on.
"It's Ramsgate on Saturday and, to be honest, we went there and got bullied, it wasn't good.
"We need to stand up strong and I want to see some big players, and big performances driving us on."
Colbran was hoping that they would be able to put things right on Saturday in their match at Godalming Town, but the clash was postponed in the morning owing to a frozen pitch at Wey Court.
The Rebels were aiming to put an end to their dismal run of four defeats and one draw, where they have conceded 13 and scored just four goals, and show they are still seriously in the title mix.
Colbran said: "It would have been ideal to do something about it up there, but that is what this season has been like with the weather. We just need to keep going and get back to what we were doing before. We were working hard and everything was falling into place before.
"We have dropped off a little and everybody seems to be looking at everyone else, rather than themselves. It is up to them now to urge each other on.
"We are a young side, but now is the perfect time for them to grow as players and show their personalities."
