FOOTBALL: Rebels' Dodd bags successive hat-tricks
WORTHING Football Club striker Terry Dodd bagged two hat-tricks over a goal-laden bank holiday weekend when Rebels crashed home 11 goals in their two matches.
After cruising into the first-qualifying round of the FA Cup with a 6-0 win over County League Arundel on Saturday, Worthing thrashed boss Chris White's former side, Horsham YMCA, 5-0 in Ryman League Division 1 South on Monday.
Dodd is the first player since Micky Edmunds in September, 1983, to score successive hat-tricks for Worthing and White said: "Terry's a good player, who will always get chances.
"He could have scored nine against Horsham YMCA, though, and that's where he can still improve."
Dodd will have to wait a while to see if he can net three consecutive trebles as he is suspended for Rebels' next three games following his red card in the opening game of the season against Leatherhead.
He said: "Six goals in two games – I'm happy with that.
"I'm happy with the performance, too, especially as I'm suspended for the next three.
"I could have scored more against Horsham but I'm happy with the hat-trick as I've not got them back-to-back before."
On his goal target for the season, Dodd said: "I'm aiming to get more than 20 and I'm well on my way now."
The wins have well and truly got Rebels' season up and running after they had lost their opening two league games of the campaign and White said: "Result-wise, I'm delighted. To score 11 goals and not concede is fantastic.
"I didn't think we played very well against Horsham YMCA, though. We should have scored double figures and, come the end of the season, some of those chances might make a difference.
"We didn't move the ball quick enough. When they went down to 10 men, we should have moved it quicker and stretched them.
"We had a lot of joy with the long ball but we're not a long ball team and no one linked the play after Matt Geard went off. I can't be too critical, though, as it's got our season up and running."
