FOOTBALL: Worthing FC's opening fixtures

THE Ryman League will kick off its new season on August 16. And Worthing will be at home to relegated Folkestone Invicta.

The following Tuesday they go to Leatherhead and on August 23 visit fellow promotion play-off semi-final losers Metropolitan Police.

The other three relegated Premier Division clubs all went to Division 1 North - Boreham Wood, East Thurrock United and Leyton. Chatham Town have been moved from Ryman Division 1 South to 1 North

In Worthing's first eight games they will meet all the other four new clubs in Ryman 1 South. They are:

County League champions Crowborough. Promoted.

Combined Counties League champions and League Cup winners Merstham, who beat Whyteleafe in the Surrey Senior Cup Final. Promoted.

Fleet Town, runners-up in the Southern League South West Division, and who reached three cup finals in the best season in their history. They switch to the Ryman after losing their promotion play-off to Uxbridge. They replace the "missing" relegated team from the Ryman Premier.

And Ex-Southern League South West outfit Godalming Town, whom Rebels eliminated after a replay in their opening FA Cup tie last season, and were subsequently managed by ex-Rebels Moroccan keeper Chuck Martini. They finished only 12th, albeit the highest pyramid finish in their history, but being favourably placed geographically, have come across to the Ryman League and into Division 1 South to replace Chatham Town (who finished 18th).

Worthing's midweek home night remains Tuesday. Ground-sharing Horsham will be playing on Wednesdays at Woodside and their first appearance there, in their second match in the Premier Division will be against Staines Town on August 20.

The August Bank Holiday game at Woodside on August 25 will be Worthing v Crowborough.
