A FOOTPATH linking Brighton Road with Lancing beach will be closed until mid September as building work resumes on three housing developments.
Access to the beach via Shopsdam Road will be restricted for 21 days while works are carried out.
The properties have been under construction on and off for three years, causing disruption to some residents.
One such resident, Frances Smith, said she was optimistic that this time the work would be completed.
Developer Ian Brazier of Adeo Construction Consultants said work had started again ‘with a vengeance’, and that he hoped to have it finished by the end of January.
He said the footpath had been closed on safety grounds, after complaints from residents which were ‘unfounded’.
“I have to be cautious,” he said. “Unfortunately it does inconvenience the locals but I’d rather be safe than sorry.”
He said work had been due to restart some time earlier but had been postponed due to the West Sussex Police Regatta at Lancing Sailing Club.
Builders will not be working on site on Sundays, and will only be allowed to work between 8.30am and 5pm.
“It’s back on track and when complete will rejuvenate that end of the road,” said Mr Brazier.
“Hopefully it will work out in everybody’s favour.
“It has been a bit painful through no fault of our own. It would have been completed a year ago if it wasn’t for one unscrupulous contractor.”
