Brook Barn Masonic Lodge have presented not just one but two cheques to Worthing Churches Homeless Projects.

The Worthing Freemasons raised £400 through a raffle and then matched the total from group funds.

The charity said it would use the funds towards the furnishing of the new annexe at its Short Term Assessment Hostel.

The annexe, completed earlier this year, has enabled the service to offer single rooms to all residents, where previously shared rooms were the only option.

The charity said the new facility had made a huge impact on the lives of the clients staying at the hostel as privacy was precious but something that was quickly lost when people became homelessness.

The hostel provides beds for up to 15 people and sometimes the house can be very busy and noisy, so a space for quiet was invaluable.

The annexe rooms have fresh, bright-looking furnishings to create a feeling of light and to be welcoming to residents.

Rachel Blair, community fundraiser, said: “This gift from the Brook Barn Lodge Freemasons enables us to make sure that we can provide a welcoming and homely environment, something which can be so crucial to helping someone on their recovery out of homelessness.

“WCHP has supported more than 1,000 people in the last year and they would not be able to do this without the fantastic support of the local community.”
