AFTER many delays, work has started on the multi-million pound project to provide a new breast unit at Worthing Hospital.
Jeannie Baumann, director of clinical services for women and children, told the Herald: “Work has begun on the £7.7million breast unit at Worthing Hospital, which will provide a much-improved breast screening and symptomatic service to women across the county.
“The new centre will provide women with the best services for the next decade and beyond with access to the latest digital diagnostic equipment, in a warm and welcoming environment from staff whose number one priority is women’s welfare.
“Clearing the site at the corner of Park Avenue and Homefield Road has begun with the removal of specialist building materials, and this will be followed by demolition of the houses.
“It is anticipated building work on the new unit will start in September, dependent on weather conditions, and local residents have been informed.”
