In response to a startling rise in youth unemployment, the Herald and Gazette series is launching a campaign to support our area’s young people get their first foot on the career ladder.

Together with Northbrook College and the National Apprenticeship Service, we are unveiling the 100 in 100 challenge on Friday (tomorrow) for employers to find 100 apprenticeship placements in 100 days.

Among the first of these will be a marketing apprentice working within our newspapers, who will gain a valuable insight into regional media.

Our area MPs Sir Peter Bottomley and Tim Loughton, the government’s children and families’ minister are both firmly behind the campaign along with the Worthing and Adur Chamber of Commerce.

Tim Loughton praised the campaign as an “innovative means of tackling youth unemployment.” Speaking ahead of national apprenticeship week next week, he is backing our drive to help create more job opportunities for young people throughout the Herald and Gazette readership.

See next week’s papers for a special launch supplement kicking off our three month campaign.
