Katie Garrett has to raise £800 to be able to take part in the trip, which will see her working on a Government funded scheme in Nicaragua, Latin America’s second poorest country, for ten weeks.

Once there she will be helping to alleviate poverty by working with natural resources and helping to improve the hygiene and health of the community. She will live without electricity, plumbing, and easy access to safe, fresh water.

Nearly 50 per cent of Nicaragua’s population lives below the poverty line ($1 per day), and 80 per cent of its population living on less than $2 per day.

To help boost funds for the charity, Katie will be completing a self-created 4-pier challenge on Tuesday.

She will walk ten miles from Worthing Pier to the West Pier in Brighton then kayak one mile to Brighton Pier before cycling 21 miles to Eastbourne Pier.

She said: “I anticipate that the 32 mile challenge will take around eight hours but this could change on the day!

“Any donations, no matter how big or small, will help me to reach my target.

“The money will go directly to the charity and not towards the cost of my placement.”
