A LANCING school got into the Olympic spirit when it held a games competition of its own.
Globe Primary School, in Irene Avenue, brought the “Globe Olympics” to a close on the same day the torch came to the village, last Monday, July 16.
The school staged a closing ceremony, with dancing and singing and the presentation of awards.
As part of the school’s Olympics programme, children had been taking part in four weeks of athletics trials and activities.
Each Friday, the trials resulted in finals where students competed for gold, silver and bronze medals.
Events included swimming, triple jump, shot putt, relay, sprints, distance runs, hurdles and various throws for students in years four, five, and six.
Pupils from years one, two, and three participated in boccia, goalball, tri golf, hurdles, throwing, relays and sprints, while reception children celebrated the games with their year-six buddies.
The Globe Olympics followed further sporting success for the school.
At the Lancing Athletics meeting on Thursday, July 5, the school won the girls’, boys’ and overall trophies for the event.
