Library visitors learn more about Worthing Speakers

IT WAS not a case of ‘no talking’ at Worthing Library on Saturday as visitors were actively encouraged to speak aloud for a club’s taster session.

Worthing Speakers Club held its annual open event, giving visitors an insight of what they do.

Speeches, help improving confidence and improvisation scenes were all demonstrated by experienced members, while newcomers were actively encouraged to get involved with the set programme of events.

The event lasted two hours, with mayor Bob Smytherman opening it with a speech.

Mr Smytherman was invited after a recent visit to the club, in which members evaluated his public speaking.

He said: “You will be guaranteed a warm welcomed, you will be guaranteed a structured evening, and I can almost guarantee that after your first occasion, you will be more confident in speaking in public.”

Vice president of PR Mandy Wallace added: “The event is held to take into the community what Worthing Speakers Club can offer.

“Last time we did this, we had several new members join-up.”

The club next meets on Thursday, October 17, and November 7, at the Burlington Hotel, in Marine Parade.
