The yacht had run out of fuel and was in difficulty a quarter of mile south east of Shoreham at 12.20pm yesterday (Thursday, June 22).

The 23ft yacht had put out a Mayday alert and when the lifeboat crew arrived on the scene, another vessel had put the yacht under tow.

The inshore lifeboat crew took over the tow and took the yacht, which had three people on board, into Shoreham Harbor and to its mooring in the port canal.

The lifeboat then returned to the station.
