Alternative route suggestion in Storrington improve air
DRIVERS may be asked to take alternative routes instead of driving through Storrington.
This proposed initiative from West Sussex County Council will use variable signing on the A24 and A29 to “dissuade” traffic from using the A283 through Storrington.
It is part of plans to improve air quality in the village and address traffic concerns.
Horsham District Council has declared Storrington an air quality management area, and further assessments are being carried out to decide which measures should be included in the action plan.
The county council has already updated pedestrian crossing signals by Old Mill Drive in the summer to reduce vehicle waiting times and eliminate false crossing requests. It will also carry out a survey of HGVs to better understand their movements through the village.
And the district council has also won a government grant to investigate introducing a low-emission zone in Storrington.
