HOMEMADE cakes went down a treat with children and parents alike when a nursery held its very own bake-off competition.
“There were 39 entries which was brilliant,” said vice chairman of the nursery committee, Vanessa Evans.
“It was really well attended.”
More than 100 adults and children showed up to ensure the cakes sold out and £140 was raised for the nursery.
There were two categories, big cakes and cup cakes, with a category for children and one for adults.
Some of the competition’s notable entries included a big, round, chocolate donut cake and a batch of cup cakes made into ice-cream cones.
“I was very impressed by the amazingly high standards and creativity of the children’s entries,” said Ms Evans.
“There were some very good, very tasty and good-looking cakes.”
Winners took home baking goodies and books.
The winners in the children’s big-cake category were: 1 George Hollis, 2 Freya Steward, 3 Herbie Evans.
The winners in the children’s cup-cake category were: 1 Hayden Macleod, 2 Austin Price, 3 Rufus Morley.
Ms Evans said the nursery relied heavily on charitable donations to buy equipment and was always looking for fun and creative ways to involve children in fundraising events.
