Bank raises money for Camelia Botnar Children’s Centre

A BANK has helped to raise hundreds of pounds for a local children’s centre as part of a new scheme.

Staff from the Goring branch of Barclays in Goring Road, Worthing, helped raise £800 for the Camelia Botnar Children’s Centre at their Christmas fair. And on top of that, due to the bank’s Charity Begins at Work programme, they added another £750 to the total.

The scheme pledges to match total donations up to £750. The centre, in Wellesley Avenue, Goring, provides free services to pre-school children with special needs, long-term medical conditions or from disadvantaged families.

Lucy Ridgley, who works at the branch and has a son who attends the centre, said: “The team at the centre are fantastic and I’m very grateful for the specialist support they provide to my son, Josh.”

Lorraine Paine, assistant branch manager, said: “I met Michael Kay at the Worthing and Adur Business Awards last year and thought we should be helping this much-needed local resource that makes such a difference to the children in its care.”

Michael Kay, director of partnerships and fund-raising, was extremely grateful for the support. He said: “Corporate relationships of this nature are vital to secure the future of the centre, as with no state or external funding, we are now totally reliant on donations.”
