Battle for Findon fire station
FINDON residents are being encouraged to attend a consultation about controversial plans to close the village's fire station.
Representatives from West Sussex County Council fire department and Findon's retained firefighters will be at the meeting, which takes place on Monday, August 9, at the village hall in the High Street.
Findon Parish Council clerk Molly Bland said: "People have to attend because it's important to come along and listen to both sides of the argument."
The proposals, which have not yet been finalised, could lead to the closure of the fire station, based in Horsham Road, which is manned by retained firefighters.
The planned closure, which has been met with widespread opposition, is part of a round of "efficiency savings" proposed by the county council.
It is not yet known when the fire station would close or what will happen to the retained firefighters based in Findon.
Worthing firefighters would cover calls made to Findon, it is planned.
