BIRDMAN: Fred and Barney are coming to Worthing

FRED FLINTSTONE and Barney Rubble have made their way from Bedrock to Worthing to have a "Yabba-Dabba-Doo" time at the Birdman competition.

Neil Johnson, of Midhurst Drive, Goring, and his friend Kevin Hope, of Fourth Avenue, Lancing, are preparing to dress up as the prehistoric duo and leap 35ft off Worthing Pier in next month's Birdman competition.

And they will be joined by a large pterodactyl.

Neil, 41, said: "When we heard it was coming to Worthing, we decided we wanted to take part, but there was quite a lot of 'uming' and 'ahing' before we finally did register.

"We are looking forward to it, but are a little anxious as well. I keep asking the organisers how deep the water is. It is just a fear of the unknown."

The friends have ordered their costumes and have been busy making the 5.5metre pterodactyl out of cardboard.

They have also been busy practising a little comedy "jig" they will do before flying.

Neil said: "It is all going to look the part."

Neil and Kevin will be raising money for Chestnut Tree House.
