Cash and jewellery stolen in house burglary

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after tens of thousands of pounds in cash and jewellery were stolen in a burglary in Worthing.

The victim, a 30-year-old businessman, was out when his home in Ham Road, Worthing, was broken into between 6.40pm and 7.15pm on Tuesday, January 21.

The intruders smashed a patio door to get inside, searched the home and took a safe containing cash, passports and gold jewellery.

Sussex Police launched Operation Magpie to tackle burglary across the county.

Detective Constable Chris Merryfield-Day said: “We believe the burglars approached the house on foot, broke the patio door and searched the home but then left and returned with a small black car that they parked outside.

“They then dragged the safe out of the house, loaded it into the car and drove away.

“Anyone who was in the area or passing by may have seen or heard what was going on. They may not know exactly what happened but they could have some information that could help us identify those involved.”

Anyone with information should call 101 quoting serial 1330 of 21/1, email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
