A coach driver who left a scene of “carnage” after his vehicle smashed into eight parked cars has been sentenced.

Paul Shields, from Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, left a pile of damaged and written-off cars after the coach he was driving crashed into parked vehicles in Downview Road on June 16 last year.

On Monday, October 29, Worthing Magistrates’ court heard the 48-year-old had taken a group of tourists from Nottingham to Worthing earlier that day and parked in Marine Parade.

But later that evening he drove the vehicle more than half a mile while over the legal limit for alcohol to find a new parking space, because the coach had been given a ticket.

For the full story, and pictures of the wreckage the coach left, read the Worthing Herald, out from Thursday, November 1.
