THE leader of Worthing Borough Council expressed his ‘delight’ at the local election results as the votes were counted in Lancing earlier this afternoon.
Conservative councillor Paul Yallop said he did have concerns when the elections took place yesterday, however, once he had heard the results, he said the only political earthquake was the election of Tory candidate Diane Guest, in Heene ward.
Cllr Yallop said: “If Nigel Farage says it how it is, I ask people to wait and see how Diane Guest gets on because she’s a really strong lady and I’m really excited to see her contribution.”
It was a good day for the Conservatives in general – gaining four seats and holding six – meanwhile UKIP, who were expected by many to cause an upset, lost one seat and held another.
The Green Party secured a historic victory in the town’s Central ward with James Doyle becoming Worthing’s first ever Green councillor by nine votes from the Conservatives.
