CRIME FILE: Vandalism, burglaries and a bogus caller in Worthing – with map
THIEVES have targetted vehicles in a spate of sat-nav thefts, and the elderly are being warned to look out for conmen.

Safe and camera taken
A SMALL safe and digital camera was stolen from a house in South Farm Road, Worthing, on Tuesday, March 18.
Thieves broke into the house sometime between 9am and 5.30pm by smashing a window in the front door.
Sat-nav warning
DRIVERS are being warned to remove sat-navs from their parked cars after three more were stolen in the last week.
Sometime overnight on Thursday, March 20, a Fiat van parked in Elizabeth Road, Worthing, had its window smashed and the sat-nav was stolen.
A Mercedes car in Hamilton Close, Broadwater, was targeted overnight on Sunday, March 23 and a Kia in Broadwater Road on the Bank Holiday Monday, March 24.
This is not the first time there has been a spate of sat-nav thefts in Worthing.
Sergeant Ian Kerr, of Worthing Police, said: "I would urge people to remove their sat-navs, and any evidence of having one, from their cars."
Vandal arrested
A 45-YEAR-old man has been arrested after he sprayed graffiti over nine shop fronts in Worthing.
Police were called out to Rowlands Road at about 9pm on Good Friday (March 21) and they found a man spraying the graffiti tag "bona" over nine shops.
He was arrested and has been released on bail.
Off-licence raided
AN OFF-licence in Goring has been targeted by a thief for the second time this year.
A man smashed a window at The Offie, in Goring Road, at 5.40am on Tuesday, March 25, and stole alcohol, before driving off in a silver-coloured car believed to be a small Renault.
Armed robbers also targeted The Offie earlier this year.
Bogus caller
A CONMAN tricked his way into the home of an elderly Tarring woman on Good Friday (March 21) after pretending he needed to switch her water off.
The 86-year-old woman was in her flat in Radnor Road at 11.30am when there was a knock on the door.
She lives in a block of four flats and there is an entry phone system on the main entrance door.
The man, who was about 24 years old, asked her to turn the water off as he was working on the block of flats next door.
He picked up a teatowel, opened a kitchen cupboard and fiddled around under the taps.
He then went to the bathroom and repeated this in there.
He then left with the teatowel, promising to return it when he turned the water back on. But the water was not turned off.
Luckily, nothing was taken and it is possible he was disturbed after two men entered the block and started having a conversation.
The man was described as white, 5ft 9, thin and had dark, very short hair. He was wearing a navy blue fleece tracksuit.
Police are appealing for witnesses to this attempted distraction burglary.
